Overview

Instantpay is a business-focused payments and neo-banking platform that helps merchants and enterprises manage collections, payouts, and business banking primitives via a single dashboard and APIs. The platform includes UPI QR acceptance, BBPS biller integrations, payout links, and developer APIs for embedded banking — enabling both online and offline collection flows for businesses. Client Challenge

Large and small merchants faced multiple friction points: fragmented payment acceptance (separate UPI/QR, cards, cash), slow reconciliations, and lack of programmable payout tools for vendors and suppliers. Many businesses needed lightweight, compliant payment orchestration that could integrate into their existing systems and accept local payment rails reliably.

Our Solution

Medro Hi Tech Symbol partnered with Instantpay to design and implement a robust, secure, and scalable payments & banking experience for merchants and B2B customers. The work combined product design, API-first engineering, data pipelines for reconciliation, and simplified merchant onboarding to reduce time-to-value.

Core features delivered

  • Unified merchant dashboard for collections (UPI QR, card, payout links) and real-time reconciliation.
  • Secure payout engine supporting payouts to bank accounts, UPI IDs, and payout links (no-bank-details flows).
  • BBPS integration for bill payments and utility collections for B2B customers.
  • Developer-friendly APIs and webhooks for automated settlement and status updates.
  • Lightweight KYC & onboarding flows to enable fast merchant activation with regulatory compliance.

Technical approach

  1. API-first architecture with idempotent endpoints and webhooks for event-driven reconciliation.
  2. Modular connector layer for UPI/QRPAY, BBPS, and multiple acquirers to reduce single-vendor risk.
  3. Near-real-time ingestion into a time-series/event store for reconciliation and dispute support.
  4. Strong security and audit trails for payouts, role-based access, and banking-grade encryption.

Technology stack

Kubernetes • Docker Python • Node.js Postgres • Time-series DB Message bus (Kafka/RabbitMQ) PCI & RBI compliance controls

Implementation Roadmap

Phase 1 — Discovery & Secure Onboarding (Weeks 1–6)

Map merchant flows, KYC requirements, bank/acquirer integrations, and identify high-value acceptance channels (UPI QR, payout links).

Phase 2 — API Banking & Reconciliation (Weeks 7–16)

Deliver idempotent payment APIs, webhook-driven reconciliation pipeline, and monitoring dashboards for settlements and disputes.

Phase 3 — Operational Features & Scaling (Weeks 17–28)

Introduce payout-links, collect-links, BBPS biller onboarding, and scale connector layer for redundancy and latency optimization.

Phase 4 — Analytics & Continuous Improvement (Weeks 29–40)

Operationalize dashboards for merchant health, campaign attribution, and build automated alerting for failed settlements and chargebacks.

Impact & Results

Faster

Merchant onboarding time (reduced by >60% via streamlined KYC)

Real-time

Reconciliation visibility for collections & payouts (event-driven webhooks)

Lower

Failed payouts and manual interventions through smarter routing & retries

Integrated

BBPS + UPI collection channels to capture web & offline customers

Qualitative outcomes

  • Operations teams reduced day-to-day reconciliation effort and dispute resolution time.
  • Business customers used payout-links for supplier disbursements and vendor payments with fewer bank details required.
  • Marketing & sales could measure collections and run targeted campaigns using collect links and dynamic QR.

Client Testimonial

“The unified platform helped our merchants accept payments consistently across channels and cut reconciliation time drastically — payouts and collect-links were a game-changer for our B2B customers.”
— Head of Product, Instantpay

Key Learnings & Recommendations

  • Build connectors to multiple rails early to avoid single-point failures and reduce latency for critical flows.
  • Design APIs and webhooks to be idempotent — it simplifies reconciliation and reduces state-based errors.
  • Prioritize merchant UX for onboarding — fast KYC + test-mode acceptance drives early adoption.
  • Leverage payout-links and collect-links to enable payments where bank details are impractical or risky to share.
